Itch.io announced the latest integration of its platform today. Now creators have the opportunity to give access to their games directly to subscribers of their Patreon. This opens up a whole new world of crowd-funding for indie developers.
In the past Patreon hasn’t been as popular with smaller developers. Most haven’t seen it as more than a premium development blog. Instead of Patreon being relegated to the fourth most popular platform for indie devs, below Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and Fig, it might become the way we release beta access. How it will completely shake out is up to be seen, but there is a chance we might see new avenues of early access revenue beyond what we have seen on Steam.
