Today, Digital Sun Games announced the Kickstarter for their upcoming action-rpg Moonlighter. They are looking to raise $40,000 to put out their game on all three PC platforms and the major console systems, XboxOne and PS4. The lowest tier that the game is available at is the $15 Kickstarter tier.

The game features a non-traditional action-rpg system in that there is no upgrade to the character himself and the only way to advance is to upgrade the armor and weapons purchased in town. Will, the protagonist, hails from the small town of Ryonka where he sets forth on an adventure. Mysterious portals called gates lead to different realms teeming with slimes, golems and other monstrosities that Will has tasked himself with slaying. There are a couple rogue-lite elements to the game, including randomized dungeons, and a death mechanic that sends you back to your home town.

The game features a secondary mini-game to in addition to its dungeon crawling main quest. It is your job as Will to take care of your local shop. The loot you gather from your adventure into the unknown realms can be put on sale for various NPCs to pass through an purchase. The gold made from the shop enables you to upgrade your equipment. With your upgraded equipment you can venture further through the gates and fight bigger and better monsters. Fighter the better monsters provides you with better loot. The better loot gives you more to sell in your store and the loop continues. Earning more gold also allows you to upgrade the shop, which provides you with more space to feature your wares.

The Spain based developer is looking to launch the game next year in March. Check out the Kickstarter [here].
